The candidates are informed that to pass Phase 3, they must descend from the top of the tower to the base. An experienced climbing candidate attempts to descend but is devoured by some flying monsters. Later, Kurapika discovers that more than half of the candidates have found hidden doors to enter the tower, and Gon finds one as well. However, the problem is that there are many hidden doors, each of which can only be used once, and only one person can pass through a door, meaning they must split up. When they try different doors, they realize they end up in the same room. In the room, Gon's group receives instructions and special watches so that five of them can follow the majority, but they cannot proceed without a fifth member. Lippo, one of the examiners of Phase 3, tells them this while explaining that they have chosen the path of the majority rule.
